Habit, Habitat & Distribution.
Golden Oriole is the urban habituated Bird species that reside on Forest edges mangrove areas also Gardens in the countries of Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, the Himalayas, etc.
They are seen on Trees of Semi-evergreen or deciduous forests. Sometimes they take a bath in small ponds or pools with repetitive flights.
Golden Oriole is Diurnal and is active during the day.
Identification and Diet-
Golden Oriole is a Yellow colour Bird with a black iris (eyes) and black wings.
Females have yellow streaks on the light-coloured belly and both males and females have Red beaks. The call of Golden Oriole is like a ‘Screech’.
The yellow plumage helps the bird match the background. Hence it cannot be seen easily, while they perch on trees.
Golden Oriole is an Omnivore that eats seeds, fruits, Nectar, Insects, Lizards, etc.
They play a major part called seed dispersal role as they consume the hard seed, which remains undigested and can regenerate on the ground from their excreta.
Courtship, Breeding and Brood care-
The Male and Female follow each other while perching in the dense canopy of the trees.
Breeding season is from April to August.
Male and Female built the Cup nest in the forked branch of the Tree.
Golden Oriole females lay 2-3 eggs, both parents make nests and feed the newly hatched chicks.
The major task is to defend the best from large birds like a crow.
The Nests is built near the nest of the Drongo bird. Drongo bird alarms through calls if there is any disturbance.
The young chicks fledge from their nests after days.
The overall Lifespan of a Golden Oriole is between 8-12 years.
