Punjab Secondary Education Board

Punjab Secondary Education Board, also known as PSEB is a growing state education board for the promotion, development, regulation and encouragement of secondary and higher secondary education in Punjab. PSEB was established in the year 1989 through a legislative enactment and was granted autonomy in 1987 after Vidhan Sabha amended the Board’s Act. Punjab Secondary Education Board plays a very important role in shaping and developing the scenario of secondary and higher secondary education in Punjab, as it has taken up various responsibilities and initiatives which concern the development of education.

The primary education in Punjab is free for children upto Class 8th under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. PSEB’s initiatives have led to the 75% literacy rate of Punjab, which was surveyed in the year 2011. The headquarters of PSEB are in Mohali. Yog Raj Sharma is the present chairman of PSEB.
