Ans- (c) All of them have equal lengths.
D.) Answer the following questions in brief.
1.) Which two basic points on the earth serve as the reference points?
Answer: North pole and South pole on the Earth serve as the reference points.
2.) Mention the latitudinal location of the heat zones of the earth.
Answer: Heat zones-
I.) Torrid Zone- lies between the equator and Tropic of Cancer or Tropic of Capricorn.
II.) Temperate Zone- lies between the Tropic of Cancer and Artic circle in northern zone and in southern zone in between Tropic of Capricorn and Antarctic circle.
III.) Frigid Zone- in between Artic circle and North pole in northern hemisphere and Antarctic circle and South pole in southern hemisphere.
3.) Why does the Torrid zone have the maximum temperature?
Answer: Torrid zone has the maximum temperature because it lies between the equator and Tropic of Cancer or Tropic of Capricorn and receives direct sun rays.
4.) What is the significance of Greenwich Mean Time?
Answer: Greenwich mean time-
1.) Provided an uniformity among the time tables of the whole country.
2.) It has helped all the airlines and shipways to get the correct timings.
5.) Why is the Standard Meridian selected by a country a multiple of 7.5°?
Answer: The standard meridian selected by a country is a multiple of 7.5″ to show the difference between the standard and Greenwich time.
E.) Answer the following questions.
1.) State three main characteristics of parallels of latitudes.
Answer: Parallels of Latitudes – I.) these are circular imaginary lines .
II.) Middle line among all these lines are called Equator.
III.) after reaching to the north and south pole they became point.
IV.) places , belonging from the same latitudes have the same value.
V.) Equator is the longest Latitude.
2.) Why do we use standard time? Explain with an example from India.
Answer: We use standard time to maintain the uniformity of timetables among the countries belonging from different meridians. People faces lots of problems while moving from one country to another. They have to set their watches continuously and it is difficult too to set the time tables for train ,flight etc. For that reason local time of the central meridian of any country has taken as a standard time.
For example India too follow a standard time to make it easy for the people.
3.) Which heat zone is most suitable for us to live and why?
Answer: Temperate heat zone is most suitable for the people to live because the temperature is neither very hot nor very cold . Moderate kind of weather always attracts people to stay over there
4.) Why is the time difference between each meridian of longitude 4 minutes? Explain.
Answer: 360 longitudes are there in the earth. It takes 24hours to rotate the earth on its own axis. Which means 360 longitudes face the sun one after another within this 24hours. It will take 60 minutes for 15longitudes to pass the sun and 4 minutes for a longitude to cross it. That is why time difference between each meridian longitude is 4minutes.
5.) Distinguish between Equator and Prime Meridian.
Answer: Equator – Equator is the central line among the horizontal lines, called latitudes drawn in the globe or Earth. It is the biggest circle and measured 0degree. It has divided the Earth into two hemisphere -North and South.
Prime Meridian- It is the central line among the vertical lines , called longitudes drawn in the globe or Earth. It is a half circle and has divided the Earth into East and West hemisphere.
