Distribution and Habitat –
Wrynecks are found in open forests, Scrublands and edges of the cultivation in the widespread regions of the planet.
Appearance –
Wryneck have Grey and Brown coloured Plumage
The head and upper parts are grey with horizontal streaks.
The throat is buff with horizontal streaks
The belly has vertical streaks.
The tailed of Wryneck is barred with Black streaks.
They appear in small groups when they migrate.
In summer they are seen in pairs.
They can get aggressive when disturbed during nesting and reacts with hissing sounds. They also Bob out their neck like snakes.
Food-
Wrynecks feed on Beetles, Larvae, spiders, moths, and aphids. They forage insects in their uneven hovering flights.
Breeding and Nesting
Tree holes are the nests.
Egg clutch if of 10 eggs.
Mostly, females incubate the nests.
Males and females both feed the chick.
The chicks become independent in 20 days.
