Distribution and Habitat
Common Myna is found in the countries of Asia, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Bhutan, etc. The habitat for Common Myna is diverse. It can be seen in woodlands, outskirts of forests, Villages, Urban areas, etc.
Appearance and Habits
Myna has a black head with a yellow beak and a yellow patch behind their eyes. The brown wings have white patches. Common Myna walk in Hops.
They are present wherever there is roadkill. It has a relationship with cattle in which they sit on them and feed on the insects hovering around their bodies.
Myna can make their head Feathers fluffy while singing.
Otherwise one can hear Myna Croaking, Squawking, Chirping, Whistling and Growling.
Diet
Myna feeds on Insects, Arachnids, Grasshoppers, small mammals, seeds, grains, wastes, etc.
Myna is also a Pollinator for some flowers.
Breeding, Courtship, Nesting.
Myna can breed at any time of the year. The Courtship includes displays of Aerial moves.
They built a Cup-shaped nest of Grasshoppers, Leaves, and thick vegetation on the tree holes or walls.
They can also claim over the abandoned nests of Woodpeckers and parakeets.
Asian Koel is a Brood Parasite in Myna nest, in which Asian koel eggs are found.
The female lays 4-6 eggs. Incubation is for 17-18 days and chicks become independent in 22-24 days.
Communal Roosting
Communal Roosting is when some species come together to roost or sleep in flocks. Myna Roost(rest) with their Families. The species of Birds in Communal Roosting include starlings, bank myna’s, etc.
Communal Roosting is a time before sunrise and after sunset.
