The Bird performs an ecological function called ‘Ornithochory’.
They disperse the seeds bu consuming plant material and seeds that remain undigested and eventually regenerate on the ground. These are migratory birds hence Seed dispersal is of great importance as they fly for long distances.
Some seeds also get stuck on their feathers or perch (climbing) feet.
Breeding, Nesting and Brooding.
Females built cup-shaped nests, that have an inner lining of mud. The twigs, grass, and moss are lined with mud and rotten wood. Nests are built on a tree, shrubs, walls, or the ground with vegetation. It takes 3 weeks for a female to build a nest.
She lays 3-5 eggs and incubation is for 13-15 days. The female incubates the eggs and the male provides food to the female.
And after hatching, the female also joined the male to search for food like caterpillars, worms and fruits to feed the chicks.
The chicks become independent after 13-14 days. Their flight is weak, until a week and till then they handle food with help of their parents.
In 3 weeks they are on their own.
