6A Picture Reading |
a.) Look at the picture of the sanctuary and describe it to your friends?
Ans. The picture is of a sanctuary named ‘Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary’. The sanctuary is filled with trees having red flowers. There are also a number of trees and bushes of other beautiful colors. In the sanctuary, there are many wild animals like foxes, deers, hedgehogs, etc. There are also many vibrant birds, which can be seen perched on branches and behind leaves. The sanctuary has a marked path for the visitors to explore the sanctuary. There are some green signboards. These signboards are instructing the visitors to not disturb the wildlife, not to pluck flowers and also to not litter in the sanctuary. For the purpose of disposing of waste, there are bins which have been attached to trees. There is a group of four friends, who are there to explore the sanctuary and have fun.
b.) What are the four friends seen in the picture doing in the sanctuary? Share your ideas with your friends.
Ans. The four friends seen in the picture are in the sanctuary to explore it and have fun. They have a map, which they are using to decide in which direction they will go next. Two of those friends are sitting and enjoying the scenery. They have backpacks with them, which probably contain food, water and other essentials they might need. They are also planning to play some outdoor games like baseball as one of them has a baseball glove with him.
c.) Who do you think is the leader of the group? Why do you think so? Ask your friends if they think differently regarding the leader of the group.
Ans. I think that the friend in a yellow t-shirt is the leader of the group. This is because she is instructing the others on which direction they will go next. She is taking active participation in the exploration of the sanctuary. The other friends also seem relaxed as they trust their friend’s capabilities to make the right decision and ensure everyone’s safety.
d.) Why do you think the children are looking at the map?
Ans. The children are looking at the map to decide in which direction they have to go next. Since the sanctuary is vast, and has wild animals and plants, it will be dangerous to explore the area without a map. This is because there may be areas where visitors are not allowed, and such areas will be marked on the map. This will help the children to avoid such areas. The map will also be helpful if they get lost in the sanctuary.
e.) Why do you think there are sign boards in the sanctuary?
Ans. There are sign boards in the sanctuary for letting the visitors know about the do’s and don’ts they should follow in the sanctuary. The sign boards act as reminders for what things should be avoided in the sanctuary, like littering and plucking flowers. The sign boards also instruct the visitors to not disturb the wildlife. Thus, the sign boards ensure that both the sanctuary is safe and the visitors are able to enjoy themselves.
f.) Do you think people follow the rules written on the signboards? Give reasons.
Ans. I think the people follow the rules written on the signboards. This is because people are aware that they should not harm or disturb the sanctuary since it is a protected area for plants and animals. There must also be rules that ensure that any visitor that does not follow the instructions on the signboards will be fined or punished. As people don’t want to be fined or punished, they follow the rules.
g.) What do you think the children should do with the wastepaper and bottles after using them during their visit
to the sanctuary?
Ans. Once the children are done using them, the wastepaper and bottles should be thrown into bins placed in the sanctuary. In case they cannot find a bin to throw the used items, they should not litter the surroundings. Instead they should store those items, and throw them in the bin when they find one. They can also carry an extra carry bag to keep all their waste paper and bottles.
h.) Do you think it is safe to go to a sanctuary on your own without any elder person to guide you? Why do you think so?
Ans. No, it is not safe to go to a sanctuary on your own without any elder person to guide you. This is because the sanctuary is a huge place and one might get lost in it. Also, there are different types of plants there, some of which might be poisonous and you may be in danger if you touch them. Wild animals also live in the sanctuary, which can be dangerous for you as you might scare them and then the animals may attack you. This is why it is important for an elder person to guide you as they will ensure that you are safe while exploring the sanctuary.
