There are around 300 species of Shrimp widely distributed on the planet.
Distribution & Habitat
Shrimps are found in the waters in countries like Asia, Africa, Eurasia, Europe, Central America, South America, etc.
They are the bottom dwellers in the ocean water.
They are habituated to cold as well as warm temperatures.
Appearance –
Shrimp are Gray, Blue and white. Every species have a different kind of colour. Shrimp have a hard body colour called ‘Chitin’. This body cover is called the ‘Exoskeleton’ as they have a hard bone-like strong cover outside their body.
Shrimp have 10 legs.
Diet
Shrimp are Omnivores animals, they can feed on plants as well as sea animals.
Snails, worms, fish, algae, Plankton, etc, dead or alive.
Reproduction
Shrimp female when mates, stores the sperms in their body.
So when the eggs in her body get fertilized, the offsprings are of Multiple males she mates. Shrimp carry the fertilised eggs and females will lay the eggs when they are ready to hatch.
A female lays about 50,000 to 1 million eggs.
Life span and Predators
Shrimp can be captured and eaten by Whales, Crabs, large fishes, etc.
Shrimps are captured by humans as their food resource.
Otherwise, Shrimp lives for at least 1-2 years.
