Distribution & Habitat
Seahorse is found in all Temperate and Tropical Seagrass beds, Mangrove roots and Coral reefs. They can survive in different levels of Saline water.
Appearance –
According to its name, Sea horses have a Horse-like appearance.
It has a bent neck and a large snout mouth. The body consists of Trunk as well as a Tail.
The Sea horse fish have a Skeleton in their body. They are among the bong Fishes, but they lack scales like other fishes.
These bony plates are divided into rings. The different number of rings on the body, according to different subspecies. These bony plates help to defend the Predators.
They swim vertically with the help of the Dorsal fin, the Pectoral fin which helps them move in a different direction, and the prehensile tail used for support.
Sea horses have spiny joints that can be grown according to the situation. The situation in which they have to blend into the environment and have a cryptic appearance.
Diet
Sea horse feeds on Plankton, fishes, and Crustaceans. Crustaceans include Shrimps and Copepods which are a unique kind of zooplankton.
Courtship, Breeding and Paternal Care.
Sea horses have a beautiful bonding ritual. Their pair is long-lasting.
The female will swim towards the male and they greet each other by holding their tails.
They will move together and dance for at least 6 minutes.
In Sea horse Male bears a child for about 6 weeks to 10 days.
They take time according to environmental conditions like water temperature.
The male goes through labour and releases 1000 embryos.
