Paradise flying snake is also known as Paradise gliding snake, Paradise Tree snake or Garden flying snake.
Paradise flying snake’s height is 2 feet- 4 feet
Scientific name– Chrysopelea paradisi. (Chrysopelea– Flying or Gliding and Paradise– park, a habitat where the snake was discovered.)
Where does, Paradise flying snakes live?
Paradise flying snake is found in coastal areas, on palm trees and also the places where there are a lot of gliding Lizards and frogs are found. They dwell in tree holes, and underlogs. Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Singapore are the countries where gliding snakes are found.
Habit- Gliding snakes can jump from tree tops and can move their body in such a way that they can float in the air over maximum distance. They fly over 300 feet. Their body is slim and round and their limbs towards prey as they launch.
How does Paradise Flying Snake fly?
Paradise flying snake stretch their ribs until they are twice their body length. This helps them balance in the air and smooth landing towards their target.
They form a ‘J’ shape of their body before aiming to rise towards the highest branch.
What is the appearance of Paradise flying snakes?
Paradise Flying snakes are not highly toxic. Their venom doesn’t harm humans. They have permanent pairs of Rear-fanged teeth. Rear-fanged teeth are present inside the mouth. Hence the bite doesn’t harm effectively.
Paradise flying snakes’ skin is covered with Black green or yellow with diamond marks on their back
Diamond markings are made up of Red or orange colour. The underside region of the snake is Greenish yellow.
The head is made up of horizontal black stripes. Snakes possess large round black eyes. The tail is thin and females are larger.
Reproduction
Paradise flying snakes are Oviparous
The female lays 5-11 eggs, anywhere convenient.
Young hatchlings are brightly coloured individuals of 15cm-20cm in length.
Paradise Flying Snakes are the ‘Least concern’ snakes, their population is stable. Hence, the existence of Paradise flying snakes is not a concern.
