Monocled cobra is a Venomous snake. When Monocled cobra injects the Venom it quickly targets the Nervous system.
Monocled Cobra is 4.5 feet long, some individuals can grow upto 7.5 feet
Habitat & Distribution –
Monocled cobra is found in Grasslands, Forests, Shrublands, Swamps and Agricultural fields of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Vietnam, etc.
They spent hours hiding in burrows and holes. But they are active at the time of sunset.
How do identify a Monocled Cobra?
Monocled cobras have rounded jaws and broad heads and necks. Eyes have round pupils.
There is an oval or round mark on the back of the hood
Usually, this cobra has glossy greyish-black or yellow-brown scales. But bands with dorsal surface bear light with coloured patches. Some of the individuals have dark bodieson the upper side. The underside of this snake is usually Grey or brown.
Diet-
Monocled Cobra feed upon Lizards, Rodents, and other snakes. Young spitting cobras can also feed on frogs and toads.
These cobras spit venom on their target. They are highly aggressive and they stretch hood by hissing loudly, biting the prey or any threat and running away to the safe hiding spot.
Reproduction.
Monocled Cobras breeds at the end of the year. It lays 16-45 eggs in a small burrow. It takes 2 months to hatch. Juveniles Monocled cobras are independent and have fully functioning venom.
Monocled Cobras are threatened due to Hunting and Poaching.
