Solution:
iii) Competition hampers the overall development of students:
Introduction:
Competition has become a common factor in any place irrespective its main objective, attending people and its consequences. Competition is general aspect in any form or mode of education from the primary to advance and higher level till one continues achieving their goals nowadays. Children are encouraged to follow the term competition and become competitive by almost everyone around them who guide to achieve educational goals. In order to becoming top in each level of education by leaving behind others some may fail to realise the real meaning of education. Sometimes children get immense and constant pressure from their environment to compete others and become first. But do they ever realise what is the actual objective of education? How should they focus on growing and learning through education process? Many children cannot even answer what they actually like, in what they find their passion or what are their future goals. All this happens because of lack of personality development and lack of confidence among children. So, children focus on enhancing their knowledge, identifying their life goals and how they can work on their overall development rather than following constant competition.
Limited competition:
Competition has also positive impacts on life which encourage children to learn many things. With competitive attitude children embrace perseverance, discipline and resilience in their daily life which are highly effective for overall growth. Children learn to overcome their weakness and win over their failures. They get the courage and strength of going out their comfort zone. Children should be little bit competitive in nature for their own good and learn from failures. It will not only motivate them to improve their skill but also they will become more responsible individual in every situation.
Competition as obstacle in overall development:
When the competition is focused only to win and not to enjoy the process then children get discouraged after failure. So, as guide we should make the learning process more enjoyable and communicating so that children understand each part of it. Children should get chances to explore themselves while learning in the same environment. Besides education they need to focus on other extracurricular activities including sports, art, music and anything creative. They need to realise the fact that they all have some specific capabilities which are their strengths. Only focusing on achieving higher grades and not learning the roots things of education will be not enough to motivate students. So, we should give them multiple opportunities and friendly learning environment where they feel free to discover their capabilities and grow with a positive attitude towards life.

To,
the principal,
ABC public school.
Subject: permission for starting a students’’ club to learn about gardening.
Respected sir,
I beg to state that I am a student of your institution willing to start a new initiative for encouraging other students in gardening. For that purpose, I have thought about forming a students’ club where interested students will take part and learn about gardening in definite time every week. I have interest in gardening since childhood when I used to see my mother taking care of the plants in my home. At present, we all need to aware about the effects of global warming and keeping environmental balance. The easiest way of overcoming such burdens like pollution, excessive temperature etc. is planting more trees and making the surrounding green. So, I want to encourage other students as well in this initiative with the little knowledge I have. I am hopeful that our little contribution and sincere attitude towards nature can bring greater change in future.
I need your permission to start the students’ club for gardening and make it as part of extracurricular activities. In this way, each students will feel encouraged and become aware about protecting our environment.
Thanking you.
Yours faithfully,
Swati Chandra

Question 4
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
Tiger Talk:
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
Tiger Talk:
It was still a busy hour in the city when I entered Market Road. People ran for their lives at the sight of me. As I progressed through, shutters were pulled down, and people hid themselves under culverts, on trees, behind pillars. The population was melting out of sight. At the circus I had had no chance to study human behaviour. Outside the circus ring they sat in their seats placidly while I cowered before Captain’s whip. I got a totally wrong notion of human beings at that angle. I had thought that they were sturdy and fearless. But now I found them fleeing before me like a herd of deer, although I had no intention of attacking them. When I paused in front of a tailor’s shop, he abandoned his machine and shut himself in a cupboard, wailing, ‘Alas, I am undone, won’t someone shoot that tiger?’ A prisoner between two constables, who had been caught for murder and was just emerging from the Court House, got his chance to escape when the constables fled, abandoning him with his handcuffs. I tore a horse from its jutka and enjoyed the sight of the passengers spilling out of it and running for their lives. A couple of street dogs invited destruction when they barked madly, instead of minding their business.
Later, I learnt from my master of the chaos that befell the city when it became known that Captain had been destroyed and that I was somewhere in the city.
Sheer hopelessness seems to have seized the townspeople. They withdrew to their homes and even there remained nervous. All doors and windows
everywhere were shut, bolted, and sealed. Some even thought that I was some extraordinary creature who might pass through the walls and lie in wait on the roof or in the loft or basement. Poor people living in huts had real cause to worry: I could have taken any of their homes apart. But why should I? One could understand their fears, but why should those living in brick and cement feel nervous? It was due to their general lack of a sense of security and an irrational dread of losing their assets. Why should a simple tiger have any interest in them either to destroy or to safeguard?
I rested for a moment at the door of Anand Bhavan, on Market Road, where coffee drinkers and tiffin eaters at their tables sat transfixed, uttering low moans on seeing me. I wanted to assure them, ‘Don’t fear, I am not out to trouble you. Eat your tiffin in peace, don’t mind me … You, nearest to me, hugging the cash box, you are craven with fear, afraid even to breathe. Go on, count the cash, if that’s your pleasure. I just want to watch, that’s all … If my tail trails down to the street, if I am blocking your threshold, it is because, I’m told, I’m eleven feet tip to tail. I can’t help it. I’m not out to kill … I’m too full— found a green pasture teeming with food on the way. Won’t need any for several days to come, won’t stir, not until I feel hungry again. Tigers attack only when they feel hungry, unlike human beings who slaughter one another without purpose or hunger …’
