Ans: – There were many reasons for the great Rebellion of 1857. They are
(i) Political Reason: – The East India Company was gradually taking over the civil power which resulted in the Boxer war. Farmers were loosing their land rights and they were not getting the right price for their produce.
(ii) Economic Reason: – In order to make England prosperous, India was exploited by the British arbitrarily. They restored to all sorts of commercial means to make England economically strong. Thus the traders and presents became enraged at the constant oppression. It was their exploitative behavior that led to this revolt.
Social Reason: – The common name could not accept the various changes in the social level as a result of which the common man took part in this revolt.
Religious Reason: – The British are gradually attacking the customs and religion of the Indians. They forced the Indians to change their religion. The Enfield rifle hit the religious structure and the uprising began.
Military Reason: – The number of India troops was less than the member of British troops. Indian soldiers were extremely neglected. The extreme abuse and neglect of them resulted in resentment which later turned into a great uprising.
