All Summer in a Day Summary: ‘All summer in a day’ by Ray Bradbury is a story of expectation of class of school children living on Venus to see the sun that appears after seven years of rain. The story begins by author describing how it has been raining for seven years. He describes about heavy storms and heavy rain that has crushed the forests. This is the life on planet Venus where lived school room of the children belonging to men and women from Earth. They have set up a civilization in this raining Venus.
The school children were waiting eagerly to see the sun after a gap of seven years all the children were nine year old. They were very young, around two year old, when the sun came out last seven years ago. They could not remember the sun. The teacher was also very excited to see the sun. The children read about the sun in the class. They even wrote stories, poems and essays on sun. The children were very excited to see the sun. The children lived in Venus, a planet where it only rains and have forgotten about how the sun feels like.
The rain stops and there is a sudden silence all around. There was peace all around. The silence was so healing. Finally the sun came out. The sun was large and blazing bronze. The sky became bright blue. The jungle burned with sunlight. They children were super excited and ran out to feel the heat of the sun. The teacher told the children not to go far away as they have only an hour. The children took off their jackets to feel the heat on their skin. All the children liked the sun’s heat more than the sun lamps they were used to. They moved around and played in the jungle falling and getting up. They played hide and seek. They looked at the sun until tears ran down their faces. They excitedly kept running round, shouting, playing without stopping for about an hour.
Suddenly a small girl cries out. She was trembling to seen raindrop in her hand. They knew that it was time and the sun was about to fade. It starts to rain and all the children sadly walk back to the school room. All the smiles faded lightning and thunder started and the sky darkened. They closed the doors as they could hear rain everywhere. They were sad to realize that they have to unit for another seven year to see the sun again.
