Peahen is the female gender of peacock. The common gender noun that together peacock and peahen are called peafowl and the baby or young ones are called peachicks. Feathers of peacock are used as home decorative purpose and kept as a sign of good luck and considered auspicious. Peacock has special place in Hinduism, peacock feature used by lord Krishna as a crown and peacock is also considered the vehicle of Kartikeya, the son of lord Shiva. Peacock is most beautiful bird because of its vibrant colors and look of feathers. So the Peacock was declared National Bird of India. Peacocks are found with color combination of dark greenish-brown and blue. The Indian peacock are found in Indian and Sri Lanka. Green Peacock are found in Myanmar. Congo Peacock found in Africa. The peacock open their feathers mostly on monsoon season to attract the peahens mates. In monsoon season peacock open their feathers and dance.The peacock are much larger than peahens in size as well as weight. The peahens has less features and are less colorful than peacock. Fully grown peacock weights 5kg to 7kg while peahens weights 3kg to 4kg. Peacock sounds louder than the peahens.The peahens does not dance while peacock perform dance. The peahen lay eggs and alone raise the peachicks. As peacock weights is heavy so they cannot fly high. They are considered the shy bird so whenever human tries to go near them, they run to get safe. As the maturity period of peahens is one year so starting first year they don’t lay eggs. The maturity period of peacock is 2 to 3 years. The new born has light weight so they fly the short distance. Peacock are considered the omnivores as they eats grain, insects and fruits. Peacock do not build their nest. Generally, peacock lives for 10 – 25 years.
