State-wise Tiger reserves in India
Royal Bengal tiger was declared as the national animal of India under the project tiger initiative in April 1973. Tiger became endangered species according to the IUCN red data book for which the tiger reserve of India act 1973 was established to conserve tiger species. Tiger reserve forests were formed under this tiger reserve project to conserve tigers within their own natural habitat and increase their numbers. At present, there are total 53 tiger reserve forests located around the entire country. The latest added tiger reserve of 2022 in the list of tiger reserves is guru ghasidas national park in Chhattisgarh which is the 53 tiger reserve. All the tiger reserve forests are governed by the project tiger act, monitored and administered by the national tiger conservation authority. India is the homeland of around 80% tigers of the total tiger’s population in the world. The recent added tiger reserve of Chhattisgarh is also the fourth tiger reserve of the state. Like national parks, wildlife sanctuaries tiger reserves are also crucial part of wildlife protection where natural flora and fauna find their ideal climate and habitat to grow. Nagarjunsagarsrisailam is one of the largest tiger reserves of India which is spread over 5 districts of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There are other animals like leopard, Indian rock python, pangolin can be found besides tiger. Manas national park of Assam is another well-known tiger reserve which is famous for protecting rare and endangered endemic wildlife creatures. It is also listed in the UNESCO world heritage site along with national park, tiger reserve, elephant reserve and biosphere reserve. Melghat tiger reserve is situated in the southern offshoot of Satpura hill ranges in the central India. It is known for being the prime habitat of tigers and biodiversity repository of the state. Simlipal national park is both national park and tiger reserve located in the Mayurbhanj district of Orissa. This forest is gifted with great biodiversity, natural flora and fauna where one can feel the ambience of cool breeze blowing through the dense forest. Royal Bengal tigers and waterfalls are the main attraction of this tiger reserve and national park.
