The Sea Summary
The sea is a poem written by James Reeves. In this poem the poet compares sea with a dog. It talkes about the different phases of the sea. How the sea can be furious at one time and silent the other time.
In the 1st Stanza, the poet describes the sea as a hungry dog. He compares the sea to a hungry dog which is grey in colour. He describe sea to be big and dangerous . The strong waves of the sea is compared to how a dog gnashes its jaws. The loud sound is compare to morning of a dog . The poet shows how sea is similar to a dog in behavior.
In the 2nd Stanza the poet says that at night when the wind roars, the sea becomes more rough and dangerous and engulfs everything that comes just like how the dog eats whatever he finds when it is hungry. He compares the sea to log and says the waves in the sea reaching the shove is similar to a dog rolling over the beach. Here the loud and aggressive sound of sea is compare to the howling of the dog .
In the 3rd Stanza, the same aggressive sea is said to become quiet and silent. The Sea has become calm. Again he compares the calmness of the sea to a tired dog, Who has fallen asleep and does not even have energy to snore. In the 3rd stanza the weather is pleasant as it remains in the month of May and June, Sea is quiet between his paws.
The poem is wonderfully written and it depicts how things change. It shows how a howling and aggressive sea has also become calm and quiet at night.
