Speech essay on Universal Children’s Day 20 November
Good morning to the respected teachers, principal, and fellow friends. Today we have come to celebrate Universal Children’s Day in school. The teachers mentioned about the significance of the day and encouraged us to conduct an event. At the beginning of the program, I am going to share a small note on the importance of celebrating Universal Children’s Day.
The Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th November every year to promote children’s welfare across the nations. The first promotion of the day was done in 1954. United Nations General Assembly adopted Declaration and Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1959 and 1989 respectively. UN General Assembly decided to celebrate 20th November as the official Universal Children’s Day in 1990. The main aim of celebrating the day is to promote international togetherness to fight against child abuse and discrimination. It is observed that there are more than 150 million child labour all around the world. Poor economic condition, armed conflict, poverty, and lack of education forces them to get involved in hardworking jobs. The celebration of the day helps to share knowledge about the basic rights of children that need to be secured for their better future.
The United Nations (UN) took the initiative of securing right to education for children in 2012. The Secretary General of UN mentioned about the goal of making every child to attend school by 2015. The UN Assembly has also mentioned about the necessity of adopting educational policies that are required to meet basic educational needs of children all around the world.
Different awareness events are conducted for annual celebration of World Children’s Day. Sharing open platform helps children and young people to raise voice against racial discrimination to secure a peaceful world. The ideas shared by children must be adopted for betterment of society.
At the end of the speech, I want to say thank you for providing me this opportunity. I would like to request my fellow friends to share more information about the significance of celebrating the day.
