Size- 15 cm
Distribution and Habitat
Indian Robin is found in the areas like Scrublands, grasslands, open forests, and urban areas like rooftops, trees, etc. in many countries.
Appearance
Both males and females have different plumages. This is called ‘Sexual Dimorphism’
The male has a black body which has a brownish crown and wings. The wings have a white patch.
The tail is upright and, Rump is red.
Females have brown upperparts and grey belly parts. The tail is upright with a red rump.
Diet
Robin feeds on insects, frogs, and lizards.
They are seen hovering around streetlights that attract insects.
Breeding
The breeding of Robin is from December to September.
The males have a song to attract females. They also spread their tail feathers and move their tail from side to side.
The song is also territorial to fight or warn rival males. The aggressive wing beats are the warning signs for rival males to get away from their territory.
Nests are built in rocks, holes, and walls and the animal hair is scattered in the nests.
Almost 7 eggs are present in a clutch which is incubated by a Female.
They hatch in 10-12 days. They have down (primary) black feather growth.
They are fed by females, males pass out the food to females.
