1.) Who is ‘I’ in the above passage?
Ans – ‘I’ in the above passage is Professor Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam.
2.) State the impact that the invaders had on India.
Ans – In the past 3000 years of our history people from all over the world have come and invaded us, captured our lands, conquered our minds. From Alexander onwards the Greeks, the Turks, the Moguls, the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Dutch, all of them came and looted us, took over what was ours.
3.) Why have we never invaded other countries?
Ans – We Indians respect the freedom of others that is why we have never invaded other countries
4.) “I believe that India got its first vision of this in 1857.” What is Dr. Kalam referring to?
Ans – Dr. Kalam refers to the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny which was also known as the first war of Independence.
5.) What according to Dr. Kalam should Indians protect, nurture and build on?
Ans – According to Dr. Kalam is freedom which should protect, nurture and build on.

1.) Mention a few achievements which have given India global recognition. In which fields is India still lacking?
Ans – India is the largest democracy in the world, we are 5th largest economy by GDP, our military is one of the strongest in the world, India is the largest producer of milk, pulses and jute and 2nd largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, groundnut, vegetables, fruits and cotton.
We are lacking in many fields such as Healthcare, agricultural development, IT and modern infrastructure. We also need to improve our GDP per capita income.
2.) List three positive things about India mentioned by Dr. Kalam.
Ans – Three positive things mentioned by Dr. Kalam is : (a) belief in freedom and independence; (b) we have a 10 percent growth rate in most areas; (c) India claiming global recognitions.
3.) Most of us in India claim our rights but do not perform our duties, e.g. all of us want good roads but are not willing to look after them. How does this affect a country’s development? Illustrate with two examples.
Ans – We used plastic which was affecting our environment on a daily basis. Despite having low fares of local trains many of us travel without a ticket so the Indian Railway is facing financial problems.
