National animal of India
National symbols of any country represent the geographical characteristics, climatic condition, social and cultural heritage. It carries significant qualities of a specific land with its existence. The scientific name of royal Bengal tiger is Panthera Tigris. The entire body of royal Bengal tiger in covered with yellow and black stripes. The royal Bengal tiger is magnificent and lethal which makes it as distinguished carnivorous animal in wild forests. The tiger is well known for its mystic and charming nature which makes it different from any other wild animals that are existing in India. There are several classification of royal Bengal tiger in India. The national animal is found in grasslands, dry scrub land, tropical, subtropical rainforests, mangrove forests, wet and dry deciduous forests. Ranthambore national park, Jim Corbett national park, periyar national park, Sundarbans, kanha national park and simlipal national park are main sources of conserving our national animal. The average life span of a royal Bengal tiger is 8-10 years and maximum 15 years. The number of tigers was decreasing rapidly by 1973. To conserve tigers,legal action was taken by implementing project tiger 1973. With the project tiger act 1973, the protection for dwindling population of tiger was initiated during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s tenure. Besides national parks there are 50 tiger reserves in India to protect tigers which are governed by project tiger.
