1.) (a) Answer the following questions:
(i) What is the meaning of Ma-ngal?
Ans The meaning of Ma-ngal is light.

Ans the joy of the mother on the birth of Ma-ngal turned into despair because a few days later they came to know that their child cannot see and he is blind by birth.

Ans Ma-ngal’s mother refuse to leave him alone as he grew up because he was blind and he was unable to see anything. so his mother be with him always.

Ans seeing means noticing something with our own eyes.
(v) How old was Ma-ngal when he was admitted in the school for theblind?
Ans Ma-ngal was eight years old he was admitted in the school for theblind.
(vi) When did Ma-ngal experience a change in the attitude of his parentstowards his blindness?
Ans when Ma – ngal principal said to his parents that nowadays blind people are not treated as parasites. They cannot see but they can feel the world by feeling. Tasting, hearing, touching, smelling and imaging. They also have the right to lead their life independently just like normal individuals.
(vii) What is braille?
Ans Braille is a type of book where letters are represented by raised dots. And these books are used by blind people for learning purposes.
(viii) How did Ma-ngal save his house from burning?
Ans Ma-ngal started learning alphabets through braille book, his senses alone get active than his parents. When his father changed the cooking gas he got that smell. So, at night when he was sleeping he had the smell of a leaking gas cylinder. He quickly calls up his parents and they throw the gas cylinder out of their house.
(ix) Who was Helen Keller?
Ans Helen Keller was not blind but also deaf as well but she worked harder in her life instead of blindness. She became a writer and lecturer in her life.
(x) How could Helen Keller read when a person spoke to her?
Ans Helen Keller keeps her finger on the lips of the speaker.
