4) The person who uses a computer is called as Computer user. True
5) Application software are those type of software which tells the computer to perform a particular type of task. True
Q3) Fill in the blanks :-

2) GNU/Linux is a free operating system that works with Linux kernel
3) The manner in which each operating system formats the hard disk is known as its file system.
4) Device driver is the program for devices which are used by operating system so that the OS
operates and controls the devices attached to the system.
5) Dividing the hard disk into different parts, is called disk partitioning
Q4) Answer the following questions :-
1) Where was the Unix operating system developed ?
Ans:- In the year 1969, Unix operating system was developed at AT&T Bell Laboratories in the United States of America by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie.
2) What is Device Driver?
Ans :- Hardwares are the basic parts which are attached to the computer but cannot perform the work on its own. So, Device drivers are the small sets of programs/instructions which are used for working of hardwares. Such drivers are bundled with operating system or may be loaded/ installed from a separate disk or internet. These drivers are loaded or unloaded as per the requirements of the kernel (uses it for controlling or operating of hardwares).
3) What is Kernel
Ans :- It is the important part/ program of the operating system. Mostly Kernal performs the work of operating system like detecting of newly attached hardwares, accessing of drivers as required by the hardwares, controlling and operation of hardwares l, creating, stoping and starting the execution of programs, providing cpu, I/O/memory management, resource allocation, security etc.
4) What is Operating System
Ans :- The Operating System is also known as System Software. It is the program which performs the various tasks like controlling of Input and Output devices, managing of files and folders and running of applications of system software. For ex – WINDOWS, DOS, UNIX, MACINTOSH & LINUX are some of the popular well known operating system. Mobile computers like tablets and smartphones have their own operating system like Android, iOS for Apple devices.
5) Why Charles Babbage is regarded as the father of the computer
Ans :- Charles Babbage who was a Scottish mathematician was the first to design a programmable computing device [Analytical Engine,1834]. It had many features similar to modern computers viz were an input device, an unit for mathematical calculations, a control unit, a memory and an output device. Puched cards (stiffed paper with holes punched at the fixed points) device was used for inputing data and instructions into the machine. Due to no support received from the government for Charles Babbage machine, the construction of the 50,000 and ore parts of Analytical Engine never began. Charles Babbage, is known as father of computer.
6) Write a note on Unix Operating System
Ans :- Unix is an operating system that was built by Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thomson at Bell laboratories, in United States of America. The production work was started in 1969. Later, its ownership was transferred to many other companies. These versions came to be used later with modification and addition in other operating system made by Apple Corporation ( Mac OSX ), California University, Berkeley (BSD) and others. Today model of Unix have been redesigned / developed by the operating systems which are in existence.
