1.) How do you know that Damon and Pythias were good friends? Give some examples from the story.
When the king was about to give the punishment to Pythias, Pythias requested king to allow him to settle his family affairs before he died. But the king did not want to grant his wish as the king did not trust Pythias. At that time, Demon, Pythias good friends, promised the king to remain himself in king’s custody until Pythias returns so that the king let Pythias go to fulfil his last wish. On the day of return, Damon was ready to die for his friend while Pythias was delayed as he had to face many danger. At the end, Pythias kept his promise and came back to took the punishment. But both of the friends argued over who took the punishment in order to protect each other. This is how we get to know that Damon and Pythias were good friends.
2.) What made the king change his decision at the end?
The king never saw such loyal friendship like Damon and Pythias in his life. He appreciated their friendship as they kept their promises no matter what happened. Even in order to protect each other, they argued over who took the punishment given by the king. At the end, the king decided to change his decision and set both of them free.
