Section A
1.)
i.) A moment of couple has a tendency to rotate the body in an anticlockwise direction then that moment of couple is taken as positive.
ii.) The kinetic energy of a given body depends on the
c) momentum
iii.) For a burning of coal in a thermoelectric station, the energy conversion taking place is
b) chemical to heat to mechanical to electrical
iv.) A nucleus of an atom consist of 146 neutrons and 95 protons. It decays after emitting an alpha particle. The number of protons and neutrons left in the nucleus after an alpha emission are
a) protons = 93, neutrons = 144
Since alpha decay means 2 protons and 2 neutrons will be reduced from the parent atom.
v.) Assertion: Infrared radiations travel long distance through dense fog and mist.
Reason: Infrared radiations undergoes minimal scattering in Earth’s atmosphere.
a) both assertion and reason are true
vi.) For a convex lens, the minimum distance between an object and it’s real image in terms of focal length f of a given lens must be
d) 4f
vii.) Two sound waves X and Y have same amplitude and same wabe pattern, but their frequencies are 60Hz and 120Hz respectively, then
b) X will be grave and Y will be shriller
Since, the shrillness of the sound wave is directly proportional to the frequency of the sound wave and hence more is the frequency more is the shrillness.
viii.) Vibrations produced in a body under the influence of the periodic force is
a) forced vibrations
ix.) The graph of voltage vs current for four different materials is shown then which of the material would be used for making the coil of a toaster
c) P
x.) According to old convention the colour of the earth wire is
b) green
xi.) Lenz’s law is based on the law of conservation of
d) energy
xi.) Heat capacity of a body is
b) the energy needed to raise the temperature of the body by 1°C
xiii.) The amount of heat energy required to melt a given mass of a substance at its melting point without rise in temperature is called
c) latent heat of fusion
xiv.) When a ray of light enters from a denser medium to a rarer medium then
b) speed of light increases
xv.) An endoscope uses optical fibre to transmit high resolution images of internal organs without loss of information. The phenomenon of light that governs the functioning of the optical fiber is
d) total internal reflection
Question 2.)
i.)
a) The principal on which a lever works is the principal of moments.
b) Gamma radiations are the radiations which are emitted during the decay of a nucleus having highest penetrating power.
c) When the Gamma radiations are emitted from the nucleus then there is no change in mass number because Gamma radiations are having no charge and mass less.
ii.)
a) Here, the centre of gravity of the given rod lie between 0 to 50.
b) Here, the given rod is made up of two different materials copper and steel and both are having different density. The centre of gravity of the rod depends on density of the substance and hence here the centre of gravity of the rod lie between 0-50.
iii.) a) The given lever is class 3 type lever.
b) The mechanical advantage of class 3 type lever is calculated as follows.
Mechanical advantage = effort arm / load arm = 0.1/0.4 = 1/4 = 0.25
Question 7.)
i)
Given,
Time required for echo = 3 s
The distance between source and echo point = x
Total distance covered by sound for producing echo = 2x
Velocity of sound = 336 m/s.
As,
(a)
Velocity= distance/time
336 = 2x / 3
x = (336×3)/2
x = 1008/2
x = 504 m.
The distance of the person from the cliff is 504 m.
(b)
The man moves a certain distance from the cliff . At this time he heard echo after 4.5 seconds.
Velocity= distance/time
336 = 2x / 4.5
x = (336×4.5) /2
x = 1512/2
x = 756 m.
The distance covered by man = final position – initial position
The distance covered by man = 756-504
The distance covered by man = 252 m.
The distance covered by man is 252 m from the cliff.
(ii)
Alpha particle contains two protons and two neutrons. In beta decay the atomic number increases by one but mass number remains same.
(a) Thus in alpha decay the atomic number decreases by 2 and mass number decreases by 4. Also there will be a emission of two beta particles it means that the atomic number is increased by 2 . Resulting that there is no change in atomic number. But the mass number is decreased by 4.
With respect to the element X, the position the element Y is left side of x in the periodic table.
(b) the radioactive nucleus has same atomic number but different mass number. Thus x and y are isotopes of each other.
(c) If the atomic number of Y is 80 then the atomic number of X is also 80.
(iii)
(a)
Every object has its own natural frequency. If this natural frequency match with external frequency then resonance occurred. A boy tunes a radio channel to a radio station 93.5 MHz it means that the boy matches the natural frequency of radio with external frequency. In this phenomenon resonance occurred and radio becomes on.
(b) The important characteristic of sound in this phenomenon is frequency.
(c) The SI unit of frequency is Hz.
Mega mean 10⁶ .
93.5 MHz = 93.5 ×10⁶ Hz.
Question 8.)
(a) The switch is always connected to the love wire. In above diagram, the wire B is connected to switch this wire B must be live.
(b) In above event , the fuse is connected to earthing. When the current exceed the value then it will pass through the oven and it will burn. Thus fuse will not serve its purpose.
(c) the meaning of the statement that the bulb is rated 600W, 220 V is when we connect this bulb across 220 V potential different then consumes 600 w electric power.
