What is LiFi:
It is a wireless communication technology that uses light instead of radio waves to transmit data. It uses LED lights to send data at high speeds as modulated light waves, with speeds up to 224 Gbps on a single LED bulb.
Function:
LiFi works by using light waves emitted by LED lamps to transmit data wirelessly. These light signals are detected by a photodetector device, which then converts them back into digital data.
Types: LiFi can be classified into two types depending on the use of visible light or infrared light technology- Visible Light Communication (VLC) and Infrared Light Communication (IRC).
Applications :
1) LiFi technology finds applications in areas where radio frequency signals are not allowed or where high-speed data transmission is required, for example, in hospitals, airplanes, and military communication systems.
2) LiFi can also be used for secure indoor positioning, improving the accuracy of location services, and high-speed data transfer for applications like virtual reality.
Benefits:
1) LiFi offers several benefits such as faster data transmission speeds, low power consumption, better security, and immunity to electromagnetic interference.
2) It is also eco-friendly, as it uses LED lights, which consume less power and last longer.
Disadvantages:
1) The downsides of LiFi include its limited range, susceptibility to interference from external light sources, and line-of-sight operation.
2) LiFi technology cannot penetrate obstacles like radio-frequency waves, making it unsuitable for outdoor applications.
3) LiFi bulbs are expensive, which may limit its large-scale deployment at present.
