Essay – What is research but a blind date without knowledge
Introduction –
Albert Einstein quoted the remarkable lines “ What is research but a blind date without knowledge”. Research cannot be defined as the reverence or love for knowledge, however, it is regarded as the love for certainty. In other words, it is regarded as the desire to beyond knowledge and explore the already existing dimension of knowledge. Research involves the process of elimination and looks for evidence that helps in supporting the point of view. Furthermore, research never comes to an end till the topic is fully comprehended. In this regard, people may disregard the notion by stating their own point of view. As opined by Alfred North Whitehead: “Research is a formalised curiosity”, which implies that research is conducted out of eccentrics.
Discussion –
Research refers to the discussion or the conversation about the knowledge that is already existent. However, if the research is considered a task it takes a much longer time to get completed. In other words, research can be intentional as well as unintentional. Intentional research takes place when the researcher has a purpose to find out something. This happens when the researcher reads a textbook article and arouses his interest to carry out research on the topic concerned. Contrary to it, unintentional research takes place when a person conducts a study out of sheer interest in any subject matter and this may happen while reading a magazine.
Research becomes more effective when it is associated with various other activities such as interacting with people, visiting places and the like.
Human beings have been inquisitive about nature ever since the dawn of civilisation. They have been curious about everything they see around them in the world. With the advent of technology, acquiring knowledge has been easier and thus people are conducting research more often. Furthermore, the art of making new discoveries is also referred to as research. In the field of marketing, researching is an extremely challenging thing. Research helps in acquiring true knowledge as it always inspires questions. It puts forward avenues of exploration and recommends new lines of inquiry. There is always a creative side to research as it enables a researcher to view things from a different perspective. Given whether the researcher is active or passive in nature there is always a positive side to doing research. Moreover, research is not about the quest for knowledge. Rather it is a process of exploration that enables a researcher to come across new ideas and adopt ways of understanding a develop a new sense of understanding,
Conclusion –
To conclude, it can be said that research is not possible without adequate knowledge. The answer that is acquired out of research simply depends upon the perspective. In other words, research also refers to the creation of new knowledge. Restricting to formal research fails to provide insights into the areas concerned. For instance, if a researcher wants to know about ethical leadership, reading volumes of books about the topic will not suffice the purpose. Instead, he will have to visit organisations and encounter leaders who are in the habit of practising ethical leadership. This research is a much broader discipline which involves adequate knowledge, however, with the dearth of knowledge research is regarded as blind.
