Difference between Adsorption and Absorption
Difference between Adsorption and Absorption are in tabular form below –
Adsorption |
Absorption |
1) Adsorption is a phenomenon whose molecule gets adsorbed. The material on whose surface, the process take place is termed as the adsorbent. | Absorption is a separate method from adsorption because molecules undergoing absorption are covered with water and not by the air. |
2) Adsorption is dependent on the surface where a coating of adsorbate is developed on the surface. | Absorption contains the absolute volume of the absorbing agent. |
3) Gas or liquid particles bind to the solid or liquid surface. | A matter diffuses into another matter(Solid or liquid) |
4) A surface phenomenon is found in adsorption | A bulk phenomenon is found in absorption. |
5) Adsorption substance can be used to separate out certain material by adsorbing them into one surface; the throwing of another material which had previously adsorbed the surface. | Absorbed materials can be separated between diverse phases, as a result of their chemical characteristics. |
6) It is exothermic reaction. | It is endothermic reaction. |
7) Rate of reaction is steadily increases and reches equilibrium. | Rate of reaction is occurring at uniform rate. |
8) It is affected or favoured by temperature. | It is not affected by temperature. |
9) Examples of adsorption are: silica gel adsorbs water vapours. | Examples of absorption are: Anhydrous Calcium chloride absorbs water. |
