DEFINITION
It is attractive force between opposite charge of polar molecules. The polar molecule have partially a positive end and negative end.
EXPLANATION
The stronger the dipole moment the stronger will be dipole- dipole forces. It is stronger than dispersion forces in small molecules. When there is not equal distribution of electron in molecules they cause dipole-dipole interaction. The electron get collected at one end of molecules because, the molecules on one end gain partially negative charge & a partially positive charge on other end, thus making its polar.
EXAMPLE:
Consider HCl molecule, It is a permanent dipole because the hydrogen atom has partially positive charge and chlorine atom has partially negative charge. when two molecules of HCl are kept near together, the positive H attract the negative Cl of other molecules and forming a bond.
