Let us understand the basic habits of our commoner bird around.
Name – Chicken or domesticated Junglefowl
Adult males are called Roosters.
Younger males are Cockerel.
Females are Hens and young females are Pullet.
Scientific name – Gallus gallus domesticus
The Rooster call is heard in the Tropical areas of South Asia, Africa, Egypt and the Indian subcontinent, etc.
Chickens are one of survived Patridge birds since the dinosaur extinction.
These social or gregarious birds feed upon seeds, insects, lizards, mice, etc. They give a high-pitched call to other roosters when they find food.
Courtship –
Rooster dances in a circle for the hen simultaneously giving calls to attract Hens.
Females either step aside or run away to accept the proposal.
Incubation is for 21 days.
The young Cockerel learns to gang up on weak predators after a while.
