Facts, Information, Scientific Name of Asian Giant Hornet
A giant bee-like insect, with exceeding power than Bees, dwells in the forests that control the small insect pests by feeding on them.
Common name – Asian Giant Hornet/ Murder Hornet.
Scientific name – Vespa mandarinia
Size – 2 inches.
Type – Insecta ( A Class (category) of Insects)
Habitat – Temperate to Tropical regions. Found in Forests, Lower mountains.
Distribution – East Asia, Southeast Asia, North America.
Appearance-
They look like a Bee but they are larger than Bee. Their Head is Light orange, with Brown antennas and Dark brown eyes. They have a Black tooth for Digging nests in the ground, and their mandibles (mouthparts) are developed very strong for Digging and building nests. Grey wings with a dark brown thorax (middle part of the Body of insects on which the wings are developed.)
Food-
Hornet feeds on Beetles, Mantises, Bees, and other large insects. Hornets can kill around 40 bees in a minute. Their venom is made up of 8 different chemicals. If they get to feed themselves on daily basis their Saliva is the secret of their energy.
Their venom is not very much Harmful to humans, it will be a little sting that will get cured automatically.
Nesting-
They create nests by digging on the forest grounds, rotted tree roots, or conquering the tunnels made by Rodents.
Asian Giant Hornet Life cycle-
Hornets are Eusocial like Bees. They lay eggs in each cell of their nests that will hatch in a week. Later Larvae will undergo 5 instars development for around 14 days. Instars are the different appearances of larvae. Some Worker females look out after the maintenance of the Colony. Males leave the nest after mating and will die eventually.
Ecological importance and Threats-
They feed on insects and control insect pests but Habitat loss and Deforestation is the reason for the extinction
