The North Ship Summary
The North Ship Summary: ‘The North Ship’ is a poem written by Philip Larkin. The poet shows sailing of three ships, all the ship sailing depicts certain meaning. The poet wants to show that journey of life is also about success, failures and many difficulties. The three ships sailing shows the challenges, they faced in their journey.
In the first Stanza, the poet tells us about the journey three ships are going to start. The ships were being prepared to sail for a long Voyage as soon as the wind would rise in the morning.
In the second Stanza, the poet tells us that the first ship sails towards the west. The west sea got favourable wind and waves which would lead the ship to a rich land.
In the third stanza, the second ship is seen to be sailing towards the east, the second ship. The ship had to return back because of the wild wind in the east direction. The ship could not reach its destination.
In the fourth stanza, the poet sees the third ship move towards the North direction in the dark sea. There was no wind to make the ship sail forward. The condition was harsh for the ship to sail. The sky was also getting darker.
In the fifth stanza, the poet tells us how the north sky rises with dark clouds making difficult for the third ship to move forward. The east and the west ship returned happily or unhappily because of the difficulties on their journey.
In the last stanza, poet observes the north ship sailing for like a hero not thinking much and facing all the hardships coming from the sea. It went on and computed its journey and now prepared for other voyage.
The poet shows how one show learn to handle their difficult times and not give up. One should overcome all their leadership to achieve success, just like the north ship.
