Story Writing for Class 5: All ages enjoy hearing and reading stories. Interesting stories particularly appeal to everyone. Here are some important points / rules which will go a long way in making a story interesting and impressive:
1.) it should have a clear and well planned plot.
2.) the events should follow in natural order.
3) it should be in simple English.
4.) dialogues should be impressive and worded as naturally as possible.
5.) it should always be in the past tense i.e. past indefinite, past continuous, past perfect & past perfect continuous.
6) it should have some suspense for the readers, to capture and maintain their interest.
Developing a story from a given outline is easier than writing one on a heading or a moral. Whatever the case, the conclusion or the end should be handsomely drawn and moral (if any) should follow in a natural and clear way.
Story writing for Class 5 Standard:
1.) The monkey and the cap seller
A Smart Move
Once upon a time there was a man ,namedHrishiSantunawala . He lived in a remote village of Gujarat. By profession he was a cap seller. It was his family business. After passing his matriculation he too went with the flow of following the same tradition to join the business. Everything was going well and he also started flourishing in his profession. But fate had decided something else for him. It was a dark night for his lifespan when he got the news at the middle of the night that everything had turned into ashes due to a devastating fire work. No one knew the exact reason , but it was said that not a single shop got rid from the fire. Next morning he had visited the place. Nothing was left over there. He felt shattered from everywhere. It had taken a month to reconstruct the profession again. Due to the huge loss of the past time he could manage to rebuild a small door to door cap selling business for him. To support his family he had to visit different villages by carrying a full bucket caps on his head. One fine morning he went from home for selling his caps. From morning only he was not feeling well. That day he took a shortcut rote and went by a small forest to go to the nearest village market. While crossing he felt thirsty. He kept his bucket full of caps under a Banyan tree and went to the nearest stream to quench his thirst. After returning he got shocked. Not a single cap was there inside the bucket. Suddenly he noticed there was a troop of monkeys sitting on the branches of the Banyan tree, wearing his colourful caps . He requested them several time to return the caps back to him. But they did not listen to him. After that he made an idea and started playing an imitation game with them. Firstly he started jumping on the ground. By seeing him the monkeys also started jumping. Then he started scratching his body with both hands , the monkeys imitated the same. Finally he threw down his own cap on the ground. Seeing him,the monkeys too threw their caps on the ground. Quickly he collected all the caps and ran away from that place.
Moral- Creativity is the master of simplicity
2.) A Claver Judge
Ans:) Once upon a time there was a merchant, named Hari, lived in a Rishipura Village . He struggled very hard to settled down his business and to make it he had to travel different places.He was a son of a farmer. Instead of choosing farming as a career he thought in a different way and started a business of peddy. One day he decided to go to Rameswaram for some reason. He told his wife to pack all luggage and this time they will stay for a long. His wife was looking worried. Hari asked her about the matter of his worry. She then revealed that on his death bed her father-in- law ,Hari’s father had given 100 gold coins to be kept with her. He also instructed to keep it safely for their bad days. But now it is not safe to carry all those coins to Rameswaram. The matter made very much worry to Hari. He was not getting any way out . But it was also to leave for Rameswaram. It was not safe to keep those coins at home so they decided to give it to a reliable person. They didn’t have any reliable relatives or friends instead of one-a Bramhin friend of Hari. His name was Shankaran. He was a Pundit by profession. He was a childhood friend of Hari and very close to him.Hari decided to give those gold coins to him. He called him and told him to meet under the old Banyan tree of the village at the very next night. They met their according to the previous plan and Hari handed over all 100gold coins to Shankaran. On the next morning they left for Rameswaram. After many years they came back to their home. After returning Hari went to Shankaran and asked for his goal coins. But Shankaran denied of having any coins with him. Hari was shattered by his betrayal. He requested so many times but nothing happened. Not getting any result Hari was bound to go to the Village Judge for the imperial. Judgement. On the legal hiring date both of them were called infront of the judge. Here also Shankaran denied the whole matter. Now the Judge instructed Hari to present a eye witness infront of him. But there were no eye witness instead of a Banyan tree. Hari failed to present an eyewitness and got disappointed by the result. Hari missed two three sessions of the court due to that reason. Getting impatient the Judge gave a final call for Hari, suddenly Shankaran out of happiness said that he would never be present here as because he could not bring the Banyan tree here. Case got closed by this revelation as Shankaran , himself revealed the name of a single eye witness. Hari got the judgement on his favour and got all his gold coins back too. All that had been possible only because of the clave judge.
Moral-Misdeeds cannot be hidden by tricks.
3.) The man and the quarrelling sons
The Realisation
Once upon a time there was a farmer, named Jagdish, lived in a remote village of Haridaspur in India. He was loved and respected by all not for his work but for his honesty and polite behaviour. Similarly for his whole life span he was accompanied by a person as his wife, who was the actual symbol of peace and serenity .That farmer couple had not only flourished towards their financial goal, they too got the success to win everyone’s heart. They had four sons, but unfortunately they always quarrelled among themselves. They were very witty and shrewd. They never express the feeling of helping someone. They were always busy of harming or deceiving eachother.So the farmer was very worried. Their mother tried hard to make them understand,but failed. This single worry made the old farmer couple mentally and physically ill. They were helpless to find a single way out .One day the farmer called all his sons to his rooms. After asking for their whereabouts he handed them a bundle of sticks and instructed his sons to break the bundle . Each of his sons tried their best but to Break it but failed. Then the farmer told them to untie the bundle . Next he gave his sons a stick each. After that he told them to break the stick . All his sons easily broke those sticks. The old farmer then explained that individually the stick could be broken . But when tied together they could not be broken. Similarly if the boys remained together they could easily withstand the antagonist forces. But individually they would be defeated in the battle of life. The sons realised their folly and vowed never to quarrel again.
Moral –United we stand, divided we fall
4.) The tiger and the traveller
Greed
Once upon a time there was a greedy old tiger lived in a forest near Jagatpura village . From his very young age he was a kind of terror for the village people. Those who used to pass by the forest hardly returned back. The tiger never spared anyone alive. Now he has become old. But The more he was growing his increasing greed had made the life of the people miserable. Recently he started coming inside the village and taking people from there only. The village people called a general meeting to solve the problem. As per the majority ‘s decision they called a renowned hunter from the city and successfully trapped the tiger inside the cage. Now the village people had become merciless. They kept the cage beside the big pond of the village , managing to help him of drinking water from the pond only. But all the villagers were strictly instructed not to give any food to the beast. It was his punishment for doing wrong with them for a long period of time. Every day the tiger requested each and every passer by to give some food to eat. But nobody showed any mercy to him. Day by day he was becoming much older and weak. One day an outsider was passing by that site. Unknown to the matter of fact he felt pity upon the tiger. He said to himself that it was very wicked behaviour of the villagers, who had unnecessarily caged this old innocent fellow. Seeing care on his eyes for him the tiger started making stories to convince him, so that he would help him to get released. He said to that fellow that as because he had become old the villagers made a bad trick on him and caught him inside this cage. The tiger also added that they didn’t give any food to eat. Now the traveller felt like crying. The tiger urged him for opening the gate of the cage so that he could return back home to his family. The traveller got ready to open the door instantly but he was also feeling scared by thinking that he might be killed by the tiger. The tiger assured him that he was old now and he didn’t eat human meat for long years. Also he had become weak and had no strength to kill a man. After getting assurance from him the traveller opened the gate and released the tiger. But the greedy tiger after getting released attacked the traveller and said he was hungry for a long, so he must be his food today. The traveller prayed for his life and tried to make him remember of his promise. But the greedy beast was not read to spare him. The traveller started shouting for help. At that moment one deer had came to that pond to drink water. Hearing the voice of the traveller he came closer and told the tiger “you are too big to fit into this small cage. It is hard to believe that you were inside the cage once.” The tiger replied to the deer that now it is not a perfect time to prove the whole matter,he was hungry now and going to eat that healthy man. The deer said kept that man aside and proved the matter first. If he could prove it, he himself would become his food with that silly man. The tiger felt more greedy of seeing such delicious foods in front of him. He got ready to prove the matter and went inside the cage. Not wasting a single second the deer and the man locked the gate of the cage and left the tiger there for forever.
Moral – Greed never goes unpublished.
5.) The boon of the Golden touch.
Golden Greed
Ans) Once upon a time there was famous king , named Midas. He was famous for his bravery as well as cruelty. No other king was there at his time as brave as King Midas. But on the other hand he used all his power in plundering other countries. The more he was getting successful,his greed was increasing day by day. He started pretending as the God of Land. One fine morning one of his nobles came with a news of the arrival of a great priest in that Kingdom. He also informed that whatever one could ask to the priest, should get into reality. The king instructed to invite that priest into his palace for lunch. On the very next day the priest arrived to his palace for lunch . The priest got very much pleased by his hospitality. He proposed to ask anything as a return gift from him. To maintain his royalty and out of greed he asked for a power, where if he touched anything would turn into gold. The priest blessed him with that gift and left the place. The king was too much happy by that blessing as everything was turning into gold by getting touched of him. But within few days blessing has turned into a curse for him. Every single thing , including food ,water etc. was turning into gold after getting his touch. As a result he could not eat or drink by his hand. If someone was going to help him, he or she too turning into gold. But the things went worsen,when his beloved daughter was turned into gold . His was more than his life for King Midas. One day out of affection when he hugged him, his daughter turned into gold immediately. The king busted with tears. Without any condition he wanted his daughter back again. He sent people to search for that priest. After few day they found him on the top of the hill. They brought him back to the palace, and the king requested to withdraw his blessings from him. He cried a lot and told him about the condition of his daughter. He also promised him not to be greedy any more. The priest put back his blessing and left the kingdom. But after this incident king Midas has changed himself totally. He had become more kind and generous. In fact he had given all his captured kingdom back to their owners.
Moral –Greed always leads to loss.
6.) The Real Mother
The Real Mother
No one can replace the place of a Mother. It has been said that she is the person whom we can put in the place of God as we don’t know the real face of God. Here we are going to discuss about a story of a real mother,rather we must say a journey of a Mother to prove herself a real one. Once upon a time there was a village , named Keshav Ganj. The people, living over there were very calm and peaceful. But one day a bad quarrel occurred in between two women upon the right of a baby boy. The baby boy was only 1year only. Both of them were claiming to be a mother of that child. One of the ladies was widow and the other hand her husband, but not living with her. He lived in the town for business purpose. One day the village people heard a heavy quarrel between the two ladies. They were quarrelling upon a boy. Both were demanding the guardianship of a boy sitting and playing nicely in between them.The visitors failed to stop the fight. Unfortunately they suggested to go to the Panchayat for solving the matter. Following the suggestion they both went to the Panchayat to get a justice. After hearing the whole incident the head of the Panchayat threatened both of the lady to accept the truth and solve the matter. But no body left an inch land for the other one. As a result the Panchayat head gave an institution to cut the small child into two halves and give each half to the both. Hearing that verdict the widow lady immediately withdrew his claim and said she didn’t belong to the child. The child is no one to her and requested to handover the small boy to the other lady. All of the people present there became very much happy by getting a positive result and for solving the matter. The widow lady was about to leave the place . Meanwhile the head Panch stopped her and handed over the little child to her. Every body got shocked by seeing the decision. Then the Panchayat head explained that real mother would never tolerate any hurt in the body of her child. And that is the reason the widow lady was ready to leave the battle ground. The widow woman busted with tears and left the ground with her boy. The other lady got punishment for his greed and was exiled from the village.
Moral –No-one can replace the love of a Mother
7.) Lord Buddha and the Mother

Once upon a time there was an old woman lived in Kapilavastu, Nepal. From the very childhood she was quite unfortunate by his fate. Her mother left her by giving birth to her. Her father left her for his new family. After few years of marriage her husband died by snake bite. Now her only son ,an actual single hope for her life has died because of an unknown fever. This time she got really shattered. She was ready to do anything to challenge her destiny. She took the dead body of her son and came to The Lord Buddha. At that moment Lord Buddha was sitting with his disciples. The old lady came and cried for the life of her only son . She requested Lord Buddha to bring back the life of her son, cause he could do miracles. At first Lord Buddha tried to convince her. But when he saw that nothing would set her back. He asked her to bring a hand full of mustard from a home where death had never entered. Without wasting a single moment the old lady started visiting each and every house but failed to get such as every house had touched the actual truth of life. The actual and the ultimate truth of life is death. She returned with an empty heart. Then Lord Buddha explained her that in this beautiful world not a single family is there who doesn’t face death. Death is inevitable. If you have born, you would die one day. Nobody could get spare from this.
Moral – Death is inevitable
8.) Boys and The Frogs
A Mistake
Once a group of frogs used to live in a beautiful pond of Narayanpur Village . The pond was situated at the middle of the grand playground of the same. It was said that the pond was the main attraction of that village. It was actually a colourful pond having different coloured fishes, golden and green frogs, different flowers etc. That was the place where man used to visit to see the colour combination of frogs in rainy days. Approximately hundred golden and green frogs enjoy the drops of rain inside the pond. As said ,it was in the middle of the playground,the visitors who used to visit the ground always liked to spend their time by sitting beside the pond. One day a group of boys were playing cricket in the field. Mistakenly their ball had gone inside the pond. To search for it they came near the pond and started throwing stones inside the pond. Because of their unthoughtful activity the lives, specially the frogs were getting hurt. From the very first they were doing it unintentionally. But later it became a fun for them. Every day they started visiting the pond and throwing sharp stones inside it. Many frogs and other species died for that. But they didn’t stop. One day a little frog gathered courage to talk to them and piped outside the pond. He instructed them to stop their merciless activity immediately. He also said that the fun of the boys had become a death call for them. The boys felt guilty and asked sorry for their deeds.
Moral- Play for one’ s Death for others.
9.) The Dog and the Shadow
A Reflection
Once a Dog was very much hungry and stole a piece of meat from a meat shop. He ran away from that place and was searching for a quiet place,where he could enjoy his food. He went away far from the town and came near a village. To get the proper locality he has to cross a stream. He took the bridge route and was minutely trying to cross the bridge. Suddenly he saw another dog inside but pond. The dog too was having a piece of meat inside his mouth. Seeing the site the dog felt more greedy. He wanted the another piece of meat. To have that he barked over the another dog. Unfortunately the single piece of meat had fallen down to the water and he had lost his single food. He was misguided by his own reflection and his too much greed.
Moral – It’s a foolish to be greedy.
