Speech on Television
INTRODUCTION
Respected Principal Sir/Madam, teachers and dear fellow students. Before this beautiful day I have been given a good chance to address us all about a wondrous device. In my full effort and knowledge I intend to say a few words regarding my topic- “Television”.
BODY
There are times when we feel we are bored and don’t have anything to do and we search for something to relieve our mind of its restless chase. We only have a toy or two and with these limited options our entertainment is far away. So the modern times presents us with its invaluable gift – The Television. Through Television we get to watch the world, we can change channels at our wish on our fingertips with help of a remote. Television was invented by the scientist J.L. Baird. The earlier models of television were bulky and heavy but with the changing times and technology we have now a thin and affordable television in almost every home. No one in my mind certainly exists who never heard of this magnificent mechanical device. There are many channels and many programs on these channels, some entertain us and some bore us. We can watch television for various purposes such as watching cartoons, serials, sports and NEWS etc. Grown up people typically watch NEWS and sports more and children watch cartoons more. Everything that we watch on television takes us to a different world for some time, like a trance. In those times we completely forget about the world around us and who we are and we get so immersed into that we get addicted to it. No doubt television has done so much for the world like educating us on multitude of topics and there is more productive aspect of television than we actually credit it for but there exists some aspect of it that remains in a negative light. Television is so much fun that we get addicted to it and wouldn’t want anything other than television; it is like we get obsessed with this virtual world. An estimatereveals we spend an average of 3 hours in front of television every day, and it is not just the television watching that is taking its toll on us but also the health consequences of watching prolonged T.V. When we watch television we are prone to sit for long hours without moving, watching constantly with piercing eyes and we get eyesight issues as the time progresses. But the time has arrived brother and sisters that we must learn to use the technology most wisely and with responsible care. It is our duty to ensure to spread the message that television is a good device to know about the world but that is all it does, being a good informative and entertainment device, it cannot create a world and it cannot make things better for us. We must take steps to check our watching hours and the material viewed, we must keep in check our compulsion towards watching anything more than is usually required.
CONCLUSION
Television poses in front of us as both a friend and foe, now what part of it you want to choose will determine the outcome of your valuable investment. With the greatest of responsibility we must use television as a device for education and sometimes entertainment also but without getting to much entangled in it. Thank you for being such a patient crowd.
