Speech Essay on Mahatma Gandhi Birthday– 2nd October 2023
Good morning to the respected principal, teachers, and fellow friends of my school. Today we have gathered to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated on 2nd October every year in India.
Mahatma Gandhi is considered as the prominent leader of India’s Independence Movement. Gandhiji is famous as the ‘Father of Nation’ in the country. The famous nationalist Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave the title to praise Gandhiji’s indomitable spirit of securing India’s freedom against British rule. Gandhiji was born on 2nd October, 1869 in Gujrat. He arranged prominent movements like Dandi Salt March, Quit India Movement to protect India from British rule. Noble laurate Rabindranath Tagore bestowed Gandhiji the title called ‘Mahatma.’
The main aim of celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday is to make people aware of his stellar role in securing India’s democracy. Gandhiji had endeavoured to abolish traditional practices of untouchability and racial disparity. He had aimed of securing secularity and religious pluralism of India. Gandhiji was deeply influenced by prominent personalities like Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King who helped him to shape satyagraha movements. Gandhiji also took a strong step to secure the rights of women in India.
Different events such as social ceremonies, local prayers, presentations are arranged to celebrate Gandhiji’s birthday. Educational Institutions prefer to show documentary films on Gandhiji’s struggle and achievements during India’s freedom movement. However, the birthday of Gandhiji is considered as national holiday. Government offices, schools, private companies remain close for the day.
