Speech on Sports and Games
INTRODUCTION
Respected Principal Sir/Madam, teachers and dear fellow students. Before this beautiful day I have been given a lucky chance to address you all. In my full effort and power I intend to say a few words regarding my topic- “Sports and Games”.
BODY
For our health to be optimal and good we need to exercise our body. This thought is often repeated many times, the meaning it conveys is really important. In our evolution history of million years we human beings and animals lived under extreme conditions for long times without food. Our very biology is programmed like that, although we have plenty of food and comfort in this world now but that was not the case all those years ago. In a way our biology and bodies are carrying that evolutionary data and we are required to have some physical stimulus to remain in optimum health. We can do various forms of active physical activity like exercising through running, dancing and gym etc. The most popular ones are sports and games, things which are very fun to participate in and time passes so quickly while playing some sport or game. Popular sports and games include football, rugby, cricket, badminton, tennis, chess, cards etc. Other than giving us necessary physical stimulus and exercise we need, sports and games also helps us bring out the leader in us, sharpens our brain and assessment power, makes players play together. Sports make us learn new things quickly, and are very much required for the physical health human needs. Sports and games are not age specific, they can be played, enjoyed and benefitted by almost everybody and anybody. Age doesn’t matter, what matters is the sportsmanship. Other than that, many countries identify the talents of sportsmen and offer them scholarships for various things based on their sports record. Sports and games are being appreciated for their good and are propagated more and more for general health of society. Medical authorities recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise to an individual per day to remain physically fit and achieve good health. Other than all the physical benefits of sports and games, they also promote our mental health in a really big way. Today many people are suffering from mental diseases like depression and anxiety, playing some game with others can be very beneficial for these people.
Sports are very helpful in relieving stress; we students face many times the grip of stress during exams and even in regular days sometimes due to workload, in these times we can always play some game and be stress free.
Sports and games increase our stamina in manifold and we develop increased power and endurance. All these physical health benefits also show it beneficial in our studies too. As you know studying for long hours sitting, with constant focus needs certain physical endurance and ability, well that’s where our physical and mental health comes in. But like all other activities, sports and games should be moderated to suit our schedule, over doing it may cause injury, and we students can’t afford injuries. Over-exertion is never an option, play under your limits and derive immense benefits from it.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion I want to say that sports are a way human beings can truly express themselves, raise high the spirit of teamwork and become better leaders of tomorrow. Thank you all for being such patient listeners.
