Speech on Disaster Management
INTRODUCTION
Respected Principal Sir/Madam, teachers and dear fellow students. Before this beautiful day I have been given a lucky chance to address you all. In my full effort and power I intend to say a few words regarding my topic- “Disaster Management”.
BODY
We are a part of this ever changing world, a world which is modern in countless aspects but still primitive in its core. Welcome to the nature, the mother and father of every living creature, it gives birth to all and the dead find their solace in its warmth soil. Nature is innocent and so are its actions in every respect. Sometimes nature works in mysterious ways, things we don’t understand happen without any apparent reason, as if some more meaningful intelligence is working to balance the universe and planets. Sometimes the force of nature can destroy our very roots.
When nature gets angered, disasters occur. And disasters are not every time of natural origin but the most deadly ones surely are. People die like ants and insects; life becomes feeble seeing the grand face of death. For some geographical places disasters are quite normal and ever occurring but some places crumble instantly under sudden natural havoc. For the safeguard of human population it is necessary for us to manage disaster effectively and on time. For the disasters to be managed it is absolutely necessary to have the required man force at disposal. The people most susceptible to such incidents must be educated regarding such sudden situations and possible survival mechanisms until rescue. Disaster management is a tool that carries the responsibilities of lives of many and so its proper execution is a must criterion.
There are various disaster management organizations, in our country India; National Disaster Management Authority oversees the disaster management effort and its protocols. Battling a disaster is very complex process which involves careful study of the situation, assessment, precautionary measures and correct rescue in the limited time. We may try to avoid every possibility of disaster but the sad truth is we are susceptible to disaster every minute. We have very little control over things, whatever control we have is artificial and not natural so the best possible course of action is to be prepared every time for anything. But that doesn’t mean natural disasters occur so frequently, almost every time we can predict something is wrong and begin the necessary action to be implemented. The damages done by a disaster isn’t just the lives of masses but also the properties and money damage done that is frustrating. What is also necessary for the proper disaster management is for schools to educate its children about disasters and effective survival mechanisms. Regular safety drills must be included in the schedule of schools. Well on a final note and conclusion let’s discuss the various important and frequently occurring disaster types. Geophysical disasters like earthquakes, landslides, volcanic activity and tsunami. Hydrological disasters like floods and avalanches. Climatological disasters like drought and wildfires. Meteorological disasters like storms cyclones and wave surges, and Biological disasters like plaques and epidemics.
CONCLUSION
Handling all these disasters we need well set plan, system and management to reduce the damage posed by the disasters. All we can say Is, this effort is not only the government’s responsibility but of the people also to help the authorities in rescue and effective disaster management. Thank you all for being patient listeners.
