Speech essay on Zero Discrimination Day – 1st March
Today we are here to celebrate Zero Discrimination Day in school. The teachers mention about the importance of the day and encourage us to arrange an event. In the beginning, I am going to share a small speech on the significance of celebrating Zero Discrimination Day.
Zero Discrimination Day is celebrated on 1st March to abolish discrimination among people living across the world. The collaboration of UN with other international agencies aims to control inequalities in order to maintain peace and harmony all around the world. The first celebration of Zero Discrimination Day was done on 1st March, 2014 by UNAIDS. The promotional event of UNAIDS helps to encourage people about zero tolerance towards discrimination faced to achieve personal goals and ambitions.
The main aim of celebrating Zero Discrimination Day is to make people aware of all forms of discrimination and to raise knowledge about social inclusion. Discrimination defines the resistance faced by an individual due to social myths or misleading information. Therefore, it is essential to make people aware of the human rights along with the legal ways that need to be followed to secure their dignity. The promotion of Zero Discrimination Day has helped in controlling unfair behaviour towards individuals.
Different organisations such as UNAIDS focus on celebrating the day to secure the rights of people dealing with HIV or AIDS. The social HIV-related stigma affects the day-to-day life of infected persons. The awareness programs of United Nations (UN) have helped to secure the basic human rights and dignity of those HIV/AIDS infected people in society. The UN general Assembly has also conducted an awareness program in 2017 to secure the rights of LGBT community members dealing with HIV/AIDS.
Different events have been organised by United Nations to resist the unlawful practice of discrimination. Awareness campaigns have been done to accumulate people dealing with the issue of social exclusion. The celebration of Zero Discrimination Day 2023 is done with the theme of ‘Save lives: Decriminalise’ that focuses on the importance of decriminalization to avoid discrimination. The promotion of decriminalization helps to offer healthy living and to control the pandemic of HIV/AIDS.
Thank you everyone for paying attention to my speech. I hope you all like it. Kindly share your valuable points about the importance of the day.
