Speech essay on National Youth Day – 12 January
Today we arrange an event to celebrate National Youth day in school premises. As young students, we are highly influenced by the ideologies of Swami Vivekananda. Therefore, we inaugurate the event with parade followed by a small cultural function in remembrance of Swamiji’s birthday. I am sharing a small note on the importance of celebrating National Youth Day.
National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January in honour of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The real name of Swami Vivekananda was Narendranath Dutta who was born to Vishwanath Dutta and Bhuvaneshwari Devi in 1863. During the college days, Swamiji was introduced to Ramkrishna Paramhamsa by his English professor. Vivekananda became a disciple of Ramkrishna and used to visit him in Dakashineshawar Kali Temple frequently. The study of Vedanta helped Swamiji to share knowledge about ancient Indian philosophies to Western World. He also promoted the practice of Yoga among youths living in India. Vivekananda is considered as a man of wisdom and faithwho influences not only young people but also paved path for country’s development.
Indian Government declared the celebration of National Youth Day to spread awareness about Swami Vivekandad’s ideologies among young people in 1984. Consideration of Vivekananda’s teaching helps to share knowledge about righteous path that need to be followed for better future. The ideas of Swamiji are shared to evolve eternal energy of youth that influences country’s development.
The day is celebrated in different institutions such as Ramkrishna Missions, Belur Maths, Schools and colleges to pay tribute to Swamiji. Religious speech, mangal arti, parade and medication are done by the devotees every year. Competitions such as creative writing, recitation, essay writing, seminars are conducted to enhance knowledge of youths’ about the education imparted by Swami Vivekananda.
The Prime Minister of India has considered the theme “Visit Yuva-Viksit Bharat” in 2023. Narendra Modi has inaugurated 26th National Youth Festival in Karnataka this year. Celebration of Vivekananda’s birthday is done to share awareness about the importance of education among youth. Swamiji believed that imparting education is necessary to empower people. Therefore, National Youth Day is celebrated to motivate young generation to attain necessary education in favour of country’s growth and development.
At the end of the speech, I want to show gratitude to my teachers who supported me to gain valuable information about the significance of National Youth Day celebration. I also want to thank my fellow friends for guiding me in the right direction. I hope my speech is relevant enough to get idea about the impact on Swamiji’s ideologies on the youth that influences our country’s progress intensely.
