Ans: The terms used for Indian subcontinent in the past was in Vedic period it was known as Aryavarta, Bharatvarsha in the Mahabharata and Purans. The Iranians used the term “Hindu” for India, Chinese used “Tien Chu” and the Greeks called “Indus”.
(2) In how many parts is Indian history divided by the historians?
Ans: The Indian history is divided into three parts as follows by the historians: Ancient History, Medieval History (the period between ancient and modern period of history) and Modern History.
(3) How many types sources of India history are there?
Ans: There are two types of Historical sources.
They are – Archeological sources and literary sources.
(4) How are the accounts of foreign travellers an important source of history?
Ans: The accounts of foreign travellers are important source of history because from their writing we get to know various information about that period. Ibn Batuta’s kitab-ul-Rihia account describes the reign of Muhammad-bin-Tughluq. Abdul Razzaq visited the kingdom of Vijaynagar and wrote about the conditions in the kingdom. Besides this, the accounts written by European travellers throw light on the conditions in India during their visit.
