(6) Short answer type questions: –
(i) How are the seeds important source of human food?
→Seeds of many plants are used as food. We use seeds of some crops like gram, peas, kidney beans and green gram (moong) as Pulses. Out the parts of these plants which are edible seeds of grass like crops e. g. wheat, rice, and maize are used as Cereals. Wheat flower is used for make chapati, bread, and biscuits.
Seeds of coriander (dhania), cumin (zeera), and black paper are used as spices in Kitchen. Oil of mustard and coconut seeds is used in cooking.
(ii) What is the importance of food for living beings?
→All living beings need ‘energy’ to carry out their daily activities. The only source of energy available to living organisms is food. Food is essential for life. it helps us in following ways: – (a) food provides energy to do work. (b) Food helps in growth and development of body. (c) Food protects us from disease. (d) Food keeps us healthy. (e) Food helps in healing the injured body parts.
(iii) Write briefly about any two food products that we get from animals?
→We get many food items from animals i.e. milk, honey, meat, eggs, oil etc.
(1) Milk – Milk is used worldwide as food. It is also converted into dairy products,like cheese, butter, curd, cream, panner, sweet items etc.
(2) Meat and eggs – We use eggs ofhen and duck as food. The animal fleshes which is used is as food is called meat. Meat contains great number of proteins and fats. Meat of goat, sheep, chicken, and fish is used as food.
In addition, sea animals like prawn, crab are also used as food.
(iv) Write briefly about any two food products that we get from plants?
→Plants are chief source of good for us. We obtain vegetables, fruits, pulses, spices, cereals, oil, sugar, and tea from plants. Green plants can prepare their own food.
Plants store extra of ginger and turmeric are used as spices. Fruits are essential for good health. These are important sources of vitamins and minerals. Fruits like apple, mango, guava, papaya, orange, are eaten raw. We use leaves of various plants like, mustard, spinach, cabbage, coriander, and mint for making vegetables.

→Herbivores: -These types of animals eat only plants and plant products are called herbivores. e.g. cow, rabbit, sheep, deer, goat, elephant etc.
Carnivores: – These types of animals which eat other animals are called carnivores e. g. Lion, tiger, lizard, and snake, egal, etc.
Omnivores: –These types of animals which eat both plant and animals are called omnivores, e. g. Crow, bear, dog, and rat etc.
