CHAPTER: – 12
(SOURCES OF ENERGY)
INTEXT QUESTIONS 12.1
1) List out any five activities from your daily life in which different forms of energy are involved.
Ans: – The example of the activities where energy is required is –
- Walking in the street.
- Doing some work.
- Cycling
- Swimming
- Playing
2) What are the three most common forms of energy that we use frequently?
Ans: – The common form of energy that are uses frequently is heat from sun, light, and electricity.
3) Differentiate between renewable and non-renewable sources of energy.
Ans: – The renewable energy which source are not present in limited amount pike the sun and the non-renewable energy is the energy where the source of energy is limited like coal.
INTEXT QUESTIONS 12.2
1) Name any four non-renewable sources of energy and give at least one advantage of each.
Ans: – Non-renewable energy source is –
- Sun where no chances of pollution.
- Hydro, there is no limited source of it.
- Tidal energy is pollution less in see.
- Wind energy doesn’t affect the air quality.
2) Nuclear energy is considered to be a very powerful alternative of fossil fuels. Even then why is it not being used on a much larger scale?
Ans: – The installation charge of nuclear energy is very high as it imagines and if there happened any damage in the plant then there will be server effect of it. So, for this nuclear energy not being used in large amount.
3) What are the limitations of using natural gas for meeting our energy requirements?
Ans:- Limitations of natural gas for uses –
- Stock of natural gas is limited.
- Uses of natural gas create an environment where unpleasant smell is felt.
INTEXT QUESTIONS 12.3
1) Name any one alternative source of energy which you would like to use in your home. Justify your answer.
Ans: – Day by day the uses of electricity are increasing as well as the cost and environmental damage is growing up so as an alternative source, we can use the solar energy for our household uses.
2) Biofuel is considered to be a good fuel. Why is it not being used on a mass scale to replace the fossil fuels in our country?
Ans: – The reason behind this is-
(i) The bio-fuel efficient as compared to petrol.
(ii) methane is harmful to the environment which present in bio fuel.
(iii) Bio-fuel is expensive source as compared to others.
3) List any five traditional uses of solar energy.
Ans: – There are various uses of solar energy like for uses of electricity in home appliances, dying different weights clothes etc.
INTEXT QUESTIONS 12.4
1) What are the steps that you can and should take for saving energy at home or in the office?
Ans: – For saving the electricity we can make sure when the work is done then the particular electrical appliances must be off. For the alternative we can use the other energy sources like solar energy.
2)List at least three reasons behind the energy crisis in our country.
Ans: – The reason behind the crisis of the electricity of our country is lower efficiency if the management team although there is no shortage of electricity but the transmission line is not managed in proper way so the service is disrupted.
3) What do you mean by the statement that ‘energy can neither be created nor destroyed?
Ans: – The statement energy can never be created or neither be destroyed means the energy is transfer from one source to the other sources by the changing its state.
TERMINAL EXERCISE
1) What are different forms of energy?
Ans: – The energy is presented in our environment in different form like the sunlight, electricity, tidal, wind energy etc.
2) Distinguish between conventional and non-conventional sources of energy.
Ans: – The conventional sources of energy are the energy which present in limited number and the non conventional energy is that is present in unlimited amount. The pollution also in low in non conventional source of energy.
3) What are conventional sources of energy? Give two examples.
Ans: – The example of conventional sources of energy is fossil fuel like coal, petrol, diesel.
4) Why non-conventional sources of energy are preferred over the conventional sources?
Ans: – There is sign of pollution and limited number when we use the conventional energy source. But if we use the non-conventional energy source the source is not limited and no environmental pollution also happen.
5)“Sun is the ultimate source of energy”. Justify this statement.
Ans: – The sun energy is the main source of energy of the universe. All activity of us happens because of the energy. The plant gets this energy and when it eaten by the animal then this transfer from one state to the other.
6) List some uses of nuclear energy.
Ans: – The nuclear energy is used in different ways-
- In the atomic bomb.
- In producing electricity.
- For the purpose of nuclear reaction in high source of energy.
7) What are the hazards of producing nuclear energy?
Ans: – There will be catastrophic damage if any nuclear power plant is damaged or get burst. The air and the soil or anywhere where it mixed that area is affected by these hazards of nuclear energy.
8) What do you mean by the energy crisis? List out the possible reasons.
Ans: – The energy crisis is very common in this high demanding society as for the production of electricity we need a source of energy. This crisis is very vulnerable as this crisis made the disruption in the chain of supply demand.
9) What measures should be taken to mitigate the problem of energy crisis in our country?
Ans: – For the mitigation of the energy in our country there is various step must be followed like the taking necessary steps toward the management team, the possibility of installing the electric tower, installing more hydroelectric or other power station according to demand.
10) Why should we save energy ?
Ans: – As we know the most of our use’s energy is made by the non-renewable energy sources and this sources also present in limited number in our society. As well as the installing charge of renewable energy sources is highly expensive.\
