1.) ‘You’re no beauty! Can’t talk, can’t sing, can’t dance!’
a.) Who is saying these words and to whom?
Ans – These words were said by aunt Ruby to her parakeet.
b.) Which word is being repeated here? Why?
Ans – ‘Can’t’ is the word that is repeated. It is repeated to draw attention to what is being said.
2.) Where was the parakeet’s cage kept?
Ans – Parakeet’s cage was kept at one end of the long veranda of Granny’s bungalow in north India.
3.) Where did Aunt Ruby get the parakeet from?
Ans – Aunt Ruby bought the parakeet from a bird catcher who’d visited all the houses on their road.
4.) Why do you think neither Granny nor Grandfather were keen on keeping caged birds as pets?

6.) Why did Aunt Ruby run inside when she heard the parrot talking?
Ans – Every time the parrot saw aunt Ruby, it screeched aunt Ruby’s familiar tone: “you’re no beauty! Can’t talk, can’t sing, can’t dance!” So, aunt Ruby felt offended and went inside when heard the parrot talking.
