c.) Have you ever experienced a situation in which you believed completely in someone who offered to help you or promised something to you. Later you realized that he/she did not mean it? How did you feel when this happened to you? If this has not been your personal experience, imagine how would you feel if you were let down.
It happened when I was in high school. I was ill for some time and as a result I wasn’t able to attend school for some time. I had a very close friend of mine, he promised he would update me with whatever had been taught in the class. To my surprise he kept avoiding me when I went up to him physically and asked for the class notes. Exams came up , he still declined to help. Not only was I let down, it hurt my feelings and it felt as if people had become way too selfish lately.

1.) Stanza 4. “So, I have learnt …………….like a fixed portrait smile.”

The father had learnt to laugh even though he did not wish to, with his teeth showing. He had learnt to shake hands without any intention of doing so. He has learnt the art of pretending so well that he has been able to say goodbye when he meant to say good riddance . He has learnt to say glad to meet you to people when that was not the case and said people he was glad to have met them when in reality it was quite the contrary.
b.) Which learnings by the father refer to emotionless relationships? .
I have also learned to say, ‘Goodbye’, when I mean ‘Good-riddance’; to say ‘ Glad to meet you’, without being glad; and to say ‘It’s been nice talking to you’, after being bored. These lines refer to an emotionless relationship.
c.) Select any two phrases that show the contrast between intention and action.
‘Goodbye” and “good-riddance” these two are contrasting to each other. Goodbye is the action whereas Good riddance is the intention.

Nisha promises to share her notes with Sia and also to teach her whatever she cannot understand.
