1.) What havoc has the super cyclone wreaked in the life of the people of Orissa?
Answer:
After the deadly cyclone the whole surroundings was filled with deadly muddy water. There were no sign of kutcha houses. All were floated by the flood water. Only fractured cement houses still stood in a few places. One could see dead bodies floating in every direction. Many children become orphan people lost not only their houses; they had lost their near and dear ones because of that cyclone.
2.) How has Prashant, a teenager, been able to help the people of his village?
Answer:
After seeing the pain of the villagers Prashant decided forget his own grief and take the charge to solve the problems of the villagers. He made a group of youth and elders. They all stated working together to rescue people from this devastation. They jointly started pressurised merchants to get rice from them. They succeed to arrange food for the victims .They managed to burn fire with wet branches to cook food. Again they took responsibility to clean shelters by removing filth, urine, vomit, garbage’s and also stated doing nursing of the injured people. To get the attention and help from the military helicopters Prashant instructed all the children to lie in the sand with utensils on their stomachs. Prashant also arranged different sports events to entertain the gloomy children and for the orphans he made a polythene sheet shelter and kept woman to look after them.

3.) How have the people of the community helped one another? What role do the women of Kalikuda play during these days?
Answer:
People of the community helped one another by forming a group. They all worked together to rescue people from the devastating effects of the cyclone. They jointly pressurized merchant to get rice and food grains and also managed to burn fire with wet branches to cook food. This group also took responsibility to clean shelters by removing filth, urine, vomit, garbage’s. They also nursed the injured people.
Woman of kalikuda got the responsibility to take care of the orphans also had lost their parents after the cyclone.
4.) Why do Prashant and other volunteers resist the plan to set up institutions for orphans and widows? What alternatives do they consider?
Answer:
Government had proposed to set up separate institutions for widows and orphans. But that proposal was rejected by Prashant and other volunteer as they thought if they will live separately; they will never forget their grief.
They proposed to resettle them in their own community, possibly in new foster families made up of children’s widows and children without adult care.
5.) Do you think Prashant is a good leader? Do you think young people can get together to help people during natural calamities?
Answer:
Yes, Prashant was a good leader as he had done all his responsibilities towards the flood victims, without giving impertinence to his own pain, pain of separation from his mother.
Young people should get together to help people during natural calamities because they are new blood with full of energy. They have that much determination to conquer all the calamities and adverse situations of life.
