How was Prashant’s journey on the way back to his village?

Prashant faced lots trouble on the way back to his village. He took the help of a long sturdy stick to cover the eighteen kilometre expedition through that swollen flood waters. It helped him to locate the road. But at several points he had to swim to cover his journey. He was shivering by witnessing many human bodies floating on the water. With them dead bodies of dogs, goats and cattle were also floating. He couldn’t see a single house standing while passing village after village.

After seeing the pain of the villagers Prashant decided forget his own grief and take the charge to solve the problems of the villagers. He made a group of youth and elders. They all stated working together to rescue people from this devastation. They jointly started pressurised merchants to get rice from them. They succeed to arrange food for the victims .They managed to burn fire with wet branches to cook food. Again they took responsibility to clean shelters by removing filth, urine, vomit, garbage’s and also stated doing nursing of the injured people. To get the attention and help from the military helicopters Prashant instructed all the children to lie in the sand with utensils on their stomachs. Prashant also arranged different sports events to entertain the gloomy children and for the orphans he made a polythene sheet shelter and kept woman to look after them.

On 27th October, 1999 a devastating storm had crashed on Ersama, a small town in coastal Odisa. In the evening, suddenly a heavy wind beat against the houses, uprooted the ancient trees and crashed to the earth. The whole surroundings were filled with darkness, caused by the heavy rainfall. Houses were damaged by fallen uprooted trees and air got filled with the screams of the victims.

After the deadly cyclone the whole surroundings was filled with deadly muddy water. There were no sign of kutcha houses. All were floated by the flood water. Only fractured cement houses still stood in a few places. One could see dead bodies floating in every direction. Many children become orphan people lost not only their houses; they had lost their near and dear ones because of that cyclone.
