1.) Why do the courtiers call the prince ‘the Happy Prince’? Is he really happy? What does he see all around him?
Answer:
The Happy Prince was truly happy when he was alive as there was no sign of tears or pain in his country. He did not have any idea of sorrow and was really happy by heart. But after his death, when he was made a statue by the countrymen and set up at the high place of the city, he saw the actual face of the reality. He felt the misery and pain of the country men. So that the Happy Prince had become sad.
2.) Why does the Happy Prince send a ruby for the seamstress? What does the swallow do in the seamstress’ house?
Answer:
The Happy Prince sent a ruby for the seamstress to help her to get rid from his poverty and sufferings. That woman was puzzled with her work and was not getting time for her ill son.
The swallow acted as a messenger of the Happy Prince and helped them by giving ruby from the sword of the prince.
3.) For whom does the prince send the sapphires and why?
Answer:
The Prince sent one of his Sapphires to the young writer and another to the matchstick girl to solve their sufferings.

4.) What does the swallow see when it flies over the city?
Answer:
The little swallow roamed around the city and saw that the rich people were making beautiful houses in the city and living happily over there. They were least bother about the sufferings of the poor people who were begging door to door. Their faces had become white because of hungry and cold. Again the little bird saw two little boys lying by hugging each other to make themselves warm.
5.) Why did the swallow not leave the prince and go to Egypt?
Answer:
The swallow did not want to leave the Happy Prince because he had become blind and it was got too much attached with him.
6.) What are the precious things mentioned in the story? Why are they precious?
Answer:
Two precious things mentioned in the story were the pure leaden heart of the Happy Prince and the dead bird.
These two things were considered most precious things of the city. The God said that the Little Bird would sing forever in his city of Gold and the Prince would praise him as they were the pure souls for whom other suffering were more important than their lives.
