Monkeys appear in the lockdown in a building society Paragraph
It was a quiet afternoon at Jalvayu Vihar, a renowned building society at Ranchi. Local Government had already imposed a lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic since the 2nd week of April. All markets, shops, offices are closed. Suddenly, a peculiar event unfolded during the lockdown that captured the attention and curiosity of the residents.
A large group of monkeys (around 12 adults and 3 babies) became unwanted guests of Jalvayu Vihar. Some of the residents shattered their windows whether few enjoyed it through their balcony. Due to lock down period, the gardens and the green lawns were vacant. They took the opportunity to be playful around these areas. They were even swinging effortlessly from one building to another, one tree to another tree. Children, confined to their homes due to the closure of schools, found unexpected joy in observing the playful creatures from the safety of their balconies. Few adults also captured their activities in camera lenses and uploaded to Social Media platform. During those days people all over the world were hyper active on their social media accounts. Within no time those videos and reels became viral.
2 days past, but the monkey troop was not leaving those premises. People were busy on creating stories and reels on them. No one bothered to think about the reason behind their relocation. One day the 12 year son of the building caretaker offered some bread to a middle aged monkey. From that day monkeys started behaving more matured way. During the Tiffin and lunch time they used to gather to the caretaker’s room and rest of the time monkeys stopped coming near the building. They kept them restricted to the garden area.
Gradually, the residents felt comfortable with the monkeys, became less worried. Few of the residents also started coming to feed them during the time they used to come to the building area. It was nice bonding between humans and the nature.
Word spread throughout Ranchi about the unique scenario and soon the society gained a reputation as the “Monkey Vihar” of Jharkhand. Residents formed a makeshift community group to share updates on living harmoniously with nature. People around the city became aware about the hunger of the animal kingdom too. Stray dogs, cats, even cattle drew the lime light and started being fed by their local society. The local wildlife authorities, appreciating the harmony that had developed, requested the society to let the monkeys be until the lockdown was lifted.
As the lockdown restrictions gradually eased, life in Jalvayu Vihar returned to its normalcy. The monkeys disappeared and returned to their normal shelter at the surrounding forest. However the troop of monkeys imprinted their presence on the memories of the residents. The people of the building society and the even the residents of Ranchi carried with them the fond memories of unexpected companionships during the challenging times of lockdown.
