Bikal Rai became famous as a self-made engineer at the age of nineteen. He made his own car with discarded parts and machines. Bikal lived in a small house with his mother and younger brother. Their house is located near the garbage dumping area. Bikal used to collect bits and pieces of iron, fibre, rubber tyres from the dumping ground. He got the engine from Singtam and the battery box from Agya Ziden. With all these materials he built his car. He named his creation a ‘semi-eco-friendly’ car. One morning he took it for a test run. His test run was successful as his car started and rolled down the road smoothly, gradually catching speed. As a result of his invention, Bikal became famous and many newspapers wrote about him. He even received a scholarship from the government for continuing his studies.
