As we all know that our country full from the various festivals. The Mewar festival is also one of those. The festival is mostly celebrated in Udaipur which is the state of Rajasthan. This festival is also known as the Gangaur. The word Gangaur expresses the couple form of Lord shiva and Goddess Parvati. This festival is celebrated from the ancient times. It is an old Rajasthani tradition which is celebrated to mark the wishful desires of married women who prays for the happy married life and long life for her husband as well and also the adolescent girls who are goning to get married prays for a prospective groom as well. The wooden idols of goddess paravati and lord shiva are crafted by the sculpture in this an auspicious time. These idols are worshipped by the marred women with same devotion and the same feelings as the idols enshrined in the temples. Idols are modered by the specific process they are fumicated. On the following day of holika, the 16 balls which is referred as the pinds. That are made by the ashes of the burnt material of holi’s born fire as well. The married women and also the young adolescent girls worship the 16 pinds for 16 days. Young girls get together in garden early in the morning to collect the leaves and the flowers, tender grass to prepare the sevara as well. The young girls take the sevara to the mandir and sing the songs in a group and prays to goddess Paravati. There are so many historical and religious rituals are associated with the Gangaur. But still primarily women celebrate this ospicious occasion with great zeal and enthusiasm with the same faith and devotional beliefs. Gangaur festival is celebrated as per the hindu callendar , chaitra shukl tritiya till chhat from across the state of Rajsthan. Women carry the idols on their head in the procession to the pond. Married women decorate the idols with beautiful garments and the jewllary as well. This fetival is being observed since 16th century in Rajasthan. A royal ride of Gangaur was organised by the Maharanas of Mewar. In which the Maharanas himself road on elephant’s back till the Gangaur Ghat. The married women perform the various rituals of this festival and sing the traditional songs in groups at the pond. The names of the idols are based on thier dresses , like gulabi Gangaur, hariyali gangaur, kajali gangaur, and so on. The city dwellers from the roadsides to have the glimpses of an attractive gangaurs procession. After returning from the pond the procession rest at the place of origin. After a while women performs the ghumar dance while mounting the idols of lord shiva and goddess parvati on their heads. After the dance, women move to the temple. The prayers are performed out there. The fourth day of this festival is marked by the devotional farewell to the idols. On the ospicious hour at night the 16 pinds worshipped for 16 days and they are offered with mehandi, bindi, kajal, begals, sindur, fruits and sweets and water as well. This is how the very ospicous festival of Gangaur or mewar is celebrated across the India.
